Letter Regarding Medical Weight Loss
We have developed a multi-disciplinary weight loss program as part of our practice here in our new expanded office, adjacent to the hospital. I have been working in Bariatrics over the past 15 years, beginning with serving as the Medical Director for the original Optifast Program at Jupiter Medical Center. I have recently been honored by inclusion into the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, and will sit for the boards for the American Board of Bariatric Medicine next month in Chicago.
Presently, we offer our new "VIP Weight Management Program", which consists of diet, behavioral modification, exercise, and medications when appropriate. We monitor patients every two weeks, with weight, blood pressure, physical exam, dietary consult with our in-house dietitian, medication check up, and review of the patient's food and exercise diary. Our best patient has lost 90 pounds over the past 6 months, and is a repeated winner of the "exerciser of the month" designation at the Jupiter Wellness Center. Once patients reach their goal, they go into monthly maintenance. For those patients who fail intensive medical management, and qualify for consideration for bariatric surgery, a referral for this procedure is made.
I have taken extension course work in bariatric medicine, having recently completed over 50 hours of training and tapes at the Western Regional Obesity Course in Las Vegas in May of this year.
We plan to offer body composition analysis shortly. We would be very happy to see any of your patients who either do not qualify for bariatric surgery, or need documentation of a formalized medical program prior to consideration for bariatric surgery.
Sincerely,
Robert A. Briskin, M.D.,
Medical Director
