Choosing a VIP / Concierge Doctor

Key question to ask when choosing a VIP / Concierge doctor:

  1. What is the target number of patients the practice sets?
  2. What are the charges for patient/couple/family?
  3. Does the doctor use Hospitalists or does he/she admit their own patients?
  4. Has the doctor ever been reported to the National Practitioner Data Bank or been sued for malpractice?
  5. Does the doctor make home visits?
  6. Does the practice have Electronic Medical Records (EMR)?
  7. Is the doctor an M.D. or D.O. & Board-Certified in Internal Medicine?
  8. How does the practice bill for services other than the retainer fee?
  9. Will the doctor see you the same day you call or the very next day for non-emergencies?
  10. What other services are included for the retainer fee? (i.e. exercise or nutrional counseling, care coordination, finding doctors out of state, seeing family members from out of state on a courtesy basis, etc.)
  11. Who covers when the doctor is unavailable? Is this doctor also a retainer/VIP doctor?
  12. Does the doctor give you his/her cell phone or personal pager?
